Greenpeace Leader Admits Arctic Ice Exaggeration

Gerd Leipold, the outgoing leader of Greenpeace, admitted that his organization's recent claim that the Arctic Ice will disappear by 2030 was "a mistake." Greenpeace said in a July 15 press release that there will be an ice-free Arctic by 2030 because of global warming. BBC reporter Stephen Sackur on the "Hardtalk" program pressed Leipold until he admitted the claim was wrong. ... The error, due to a problem called sensor drift, began in early January and caused a slowly growing underestimation of sea ice extent until mid-February. Thats when puzzled readers alerted the NSIDC about data showing ice-covered areas as stretches of open ocean, the Boulder, Colorado-based group said on its Web site.

Feb. 20 (Bloomberg) — A glitch in satellite sensors caused scientists to underestimate the extent of Arctic sea ice by 500,000 square kilometers (193,000 square miles), a California- size area, the U.S. National Snow and Ice Data Center said.
Funny, they once said that it would melt away by 2030, now they are telling everyone 2050. So, when 2050 hits and they are wrong, are they going to bump it back another 20 years or more?
After that stupid action on the Canadian parliment buildings yesterday, which was an inslult to every Canadian, I will never support greenpeace ever again.
The Greenland ice sheet is over land. The Arctic Ocean is water. He seems to have forgotten the difference but that accounts for the apparent discrepancy. The ice pole has been free of ice during the summer. Deny global warming and you deny facts.

They will try and burn a couple of scientists connected with CLIMATEGATE and claim that dispite the blatant forgery of the evidence of man made global warming, despite the disruption of the “peer review” process, and dispite all the science ethics violations wrapped around the data the IPCC made it basis for conclusion, despite all this, AGW is man made, and the debate is still over. Well, it ain’t gonna fly!

Oh dear. All you do is shout and insult but never cite any sources but repeat the same old stuff. Do you only read Greenpeace handouts? Kilimanjaro lost 75% of its ice sheet between 1910 and 1989, then a further quarter of the remainder since then. Maybe it’s a positive feedback scenario: once it starts to go it accelerates. Temperature anomaly records in that area, if you bother to look, show again a slight decline since 1979: the data is publicly available.

The retreat of glaciers are at an incredibly accelerated rate, NEVER seen in history, huge percentages gone every year, and only recently at this ridiculous rate. Again, the stupid can’t understand this simple stuff. Kilimanjaro is from warming. You are wrong, the world did not get cooler in the last decade it has gotten warmer, where do people get this crap. This is the point, the global average keeps increasing, if you deny that you are stupid or a liar, past decade is the warmest on record.

The evidence against global warming is the graph of mean annual temperature anomalies which was so beloved of the warmers a few years ago when it had been going upwards for a few decades but has now been more or less going down for a decade. Now there was a turn up for the books. Oh, but that was just one of those things, eh? And blow me, the world got cooler but the Arctic still melted…
